how to verify if one has halides to get rid of or not?

...or is it that - quite simply - everybody has them?
I'm not american, so exposure for me might be or have been less, I've lived most of my life in Italy and then Scandinavia. Especially in Italy there is still some integrity around food, they're in fact quite obsessed with quality and traditions.

But it seems I'm hypothyroidean, don't know since when, would that mean by itself that I have halides to get rid of? could I still be storing the chlorine of my training as an agonistic swimmer from age 5 to age 11? or could I have become hypo back then?

one last question, how long should it take for Iodine to displace all halides and how can one evaluate it's time for maintenance?

thank you so much
