Math is not my strong point, but I'll give it a shot. If anyone sees that I'm incorrect on this, please correct me! I can tell that what they call 12% is a stronger than what is called 5% in the U.S. 5% contains 6.25mg iodine/iodide per drop.
from the link re the 12%:
Iodide per drop = 0.0059gms (5.90mg)
Iodine per drop = 0.0029gms (2.90mg)
That would equal 8.80mg total Iodine
per drop. 6 drops of the 12% would be roughly equivalent to 50mg.
from the link, again:
According to Dr D Brownstein states in his book 'Iodine, Why you need it, why you cant live without it' - 'It is impossible to achive the RDA for iodine. My clinical experience has shown that most people need from 6-50mg/day of a combination of Iodine
More on dosing re: Brownstein:
"After testing individuals and finding low Iodine
levels, I began to use smaller milligram amounts of iodine/iodide (6.25mg/day). Upon retesting these individuals 1-2 months later, little progress was made. I therefore began using higher milligram doses (6.25-50mg) to increase the serum levels of iodine. It was only with these higher doses that I began to see clinical improvement as well as positive changes in the laboratory tests.
Why would people need the larger doses of iodine? Why have iodine levels fallen 50% in the last 30 years? As I pondered these questions, I came to the conclusion that the toxicity of modern life must be impacting iodine levels. It is well known that the toxic halides, fluoride and bromide, having a similar structure as iodine, can competitively inhibit iodine absorption and binding in the body."
...most people do well at the higher doses, from 50-100 mg per day. How you get there is up to you- you can start low and titrate up or you can start right out at 50mg. I prefer titrating up as there are those that have difficulty with higher doses but then again people have good results starting high so it's up to you, sorry I can't be more specific on that one:) Iodine supplementation is highly individual, you'll find yourself tweaking your protocol as you go along.
Also, if I were you I would take cod liver oil, several forum members have had difficult periods normalize with cod liver oil:
