While you may be excited to shake up the mundanity of everyday life, you may also find yourself struggling to achieve a good night’s sleep. Whether it is the unfamiliarity with this new environment, ambient light or sound or a reason unbeknownst to you, hotels can present many challenges for those wanting to rest well. If you want to boost your quality of sleep during your next hotel stay, here are a few must-follow tips.

Invest in a High-Quality Hotel

Settling for the least expensive option end up costing you in sleep quality, as the hotel quality often makes a big difference. If you want to ensure that you get a good night’s rest, you need a high-quality hotel that can give you the luxurious, calming setting you want like the marriott providence. If you settle for lower quality accommodations, you may directly feel the impact of that with sheets, wall density, mattress and many other factors that can disrupt a good night’s rest.

Reduce Disruptions

Many different factors can influence your ability to fall and stay asleep. While hotels are often set up with comfort and care in mind, you may still notice that you are impacted by noticeable environmental factors. If you want to sleep better during your hotel stay, use the blackout shades and curtains in the room to block out any ambient light and use the fan in the bathroom to dampen disruptive sounds. You can even bring a white noise machine at home that can introduce some familiarity while also blocking out disruptive noises around your hotel room.

Enjoy Cooler Temperatures

Another environmental factor that you often have control over in a hotel room is the temperature. Consider lowering your room temperature to the sixties to give you the optimal temperature for sound slumbers. Not only can this help you stay asleep, but it can also signal to your body that it is time for bed. Temperature plays a powerful role in your sleep quality and is often a factor that you can control.

Stick to Sleep Hygiene Routines

The lack of familiarity with the accommodations is one of the reasons why people have difficulty with sleep in hotels. To make you feel more comfortable, stick to your same sleep hygiene routine. Whether you shower, brush your teeth and read a book or wash up, stretch and listen to music, try to incorporate your same habits. This familiarity can make it feel much more like home. You can even bring creature comforts like aromatherapy or a pillow from home to truly make this room feel like a more comfortable place to rest your head.

Avoid Sleep Disrupters

Whether you are on a business trip or vacation, it can feel easy to fall out of your normal routine. You may be tempted to indulge in sweets or alcohol, eat off schedule or enjoy a late-night snack; however, these often cause significant sleep disruptions. While you may be tempted to eat later in the day or overindulge, be mindful of how this may affect your slumbers. It may be better to partake in these earlier in the day or avoid them altogether if you want to sleep well.

Spend Time Outdoors and Incorporate Physical Activity

If your body is not physically tired enough to rest, sleep can prove immensely challenging. This requires preparation that begins much earlier in the day. Try to incorporate physical activity and exposure to the sun into each day. This can regulate your body’s natural rhythms and tire you out enough to be ready for a sound sleep.
